YOUR TRAVEL ITINERARY TO LULUNI MENTAWAI SURF BUNGALOWS
WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN PADANG SUMATRA AND WHAT TO EXPECT…
IMPORTANT: Please consider the following before booking and paying for any airfares .
When booking airfares you must arrive in Padang, Sumatra on either Monday or Friday and then overnight in a hotel in Padang.
This is due to the Mentawai Fast Ferry service to Siberut Island that departs from Padang 6.45am on Tuesday and Saturday.
On departure from Luluni Mentawai Surf Bungalows the Mentawai Ferry service arrives in Padang harbour around 7pm Tuesday and Saturday. This does not allow enough time to fly out of Padang the same day. Therefore returning home you will again spend a night in Padang.
When booking your flight home you will need to depart Padang on either Sunday or Wednesday as well.
1. BOOKING FLIGHTS
Arrive in Padang, Sumatra on Monday or Friday.
Your last airport destination will be Minangkabau International Airport, Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia.
Easiest stopovers when booking your flight to Padang are through Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia or Jakarta, Indonesia.
Airlines such as Air Asia, Garuda and Lion Air all fly to Padang, Indonesia
2. ARRIVING IN PADANG, SUMATRA
A Luluni Mentawai Surf Bungalow staff member will be waiting for you upon arrival in Padang airport and take you to your hotel stop over in Padang for the night.
He will also pick you up no later than 6am the next morning from your hotel and drop you at Padang Ferry Harbour, allowing enough time to purchase ferry tickets and surfboard tax then load luggage and board bags onto the Mentawai Fast ferry for departure to Siberut Island.
NOTE: Same service applies for your return trip when you arrive back in Padang after your stay at Luluni. (ie. You will also be transferred from ferry to hotel, and hotel to airport the following day by a Luluni staff member.
3. OVERNIGHT HOTEL STAY IN PADANG
You will need to make a hotel reservation in Padang and stay overnight where you will be picked up the following morning and taken to the Mentawai Fast ferry.
A nice hotel room in Padang costs approx $40.00usd per night depending on where you stay.
You will also need make another hotel reservation and overnight in Padang after you leave Luluni Mentawai Surf Bungalows before your flight home the following day.
4. MENTAWAI FAST FERRY TRANSFER TO SIBERUT ISLAND
The Mentawai ferry departs from Padang at 7 00am on Tuesday and Saturday only and will leave from Siberut these same days around 2 30pm arriving in Padang between 6pm and 7pm depending on sea conditions.
You must arrive in Padang the day before the ferry departs (so either a Monday or Friday), and leave Padang the day after you return from the Luluni to Padang (Wednesday or Sunday).

Mentawai Fast Ferry tickets can be purchased where the ferry departs from in Padang at the ferry harbour terminal.
- Price is Rp. 295,000 per person one way (approx $22.00usd)
- Plus Rp. 230,000 per board bag one way (approx $17.00 usd)
NOTE: After your stay at Luluni, you will be dropped back to Siberut ferry terminal by speedboat driven by a Luluni staff member. There you will need to purchase tickets for the same price from the Siberut ferry harbour terminal for you return trip back to Padang.
5. LULUNI SPEEDBOAT TRANSFER FROM SIBERUT TO LULUNI MENTAWAI SURF BUNGALOWS
When you arrive at Siberut Ferry Terminal, one of our boat captains will meet you and transfer your luggage to one of the Luluni speedboats to take you on the last leg of your journey. Before arriving at Luluni you will embark on an approx 45min Speedboat ride through the mangroves and/or via ocean, depending on tide level and swell conditions.
On the day of your departure from Luluni, you will leave Luluni approx 11am (plenty of time for a last surf at the front at Beng Bengs) to embark on Mentawai Fast ferry back to Padang.
6. MENTAWAI SURF TAX
Since the 1st of August 2016, the Mentawai Government has implemented a surf tax of Rp. 1,000,000 (approx $80usd) per surfer that all foreign surfers visiting Mentawai are legally obliged to pay, upon arrival in Padang Harbour.
This is valid for a 15-days stay and his extendable. The Mentawai Tourism Office will ask for a copy of your passport along with your payment and will provide you with a waterproof bracelet to use while surfing, as a proof of purchase.
